Protect Your Underground Facilities This Hurricane Season

Hurricane season is officially here, and underground facility (utility) owners and operators across Florida are preparing for the potential damages, repairs and service interruptions caused by the season’s intense weather. But additional risks to underground infrastructure come after the storm, when homeowners and professionals begin cleaning up the fallen trees, broken fences and other damages hurricanes leave behind.

To help your organization spread the word about proper storm cleanup following a hurricane, access the Sunshine 811 After the Storm toolkit. This toolkit contains helpful materials to remind those cleaning up following a storm that they must contact 811 before any project that requires digging or disturbing the ground, including removing downed trees.

The toolkit contains recommended social media content, an op-ed piece for an email or website post, copy for a public service announcement and more. Sunshine 811 members can use these resources as-is, or modify them to be included in any existing outreach your organization has planned.

Make sure your underground facilities are protected after hurricanes this season by using the After the Storm toolkit.
